That’s what people ask us. We answer: “we support it!” because there isn’t a concise answer that we know of. Read their “about” page on the website. Dan Douglas, of the Raleigh Urban Design Center, will be skipping the lecture about building a pedestrian-friendly city to deliver the keynote speech tonight. The opening reception begins tonight, Thursday, at 7PM at Vintage 21. Vintage 21 is located in the old Jillian’s location on West Street. SparkCon has more events planned than we can list here but check out the full schedule on their website and participate!

I just received an email from a friend with a link to a N&O story about Vintage 21. “Like many evangelical churches, it does not allow women to serve as elders and views homosexuality as a sin. Lead pastor Jones said barring women from serving as elders brought a “tidal wave” of controversy, but he said he thought it was in keeping with the Bible.

Wow! That’s certainly creative. We’ll still support SparkCon but maybe we’ll use the collection basket as a comment box.
What is SparkCon? I think I’m getting this message from the organizers: “You tell us.”
Occasionally I approach photography projects by throwing cool metaphors and attractive elements together to see where it takes me, it seems to me that SparkCon is taking that precise tack.
While I keep pressing for an “elevator speech” that’s word of mouth worthy, it doesn’t come. I still believe resistance is a big mistake but this year I’m more willing to support the effort and eagerly watch it take shape with hope that eventually momentum will offer a clear idea to the unenlightened.
