Apropos of nothing, does anyone out there remember the Club Morocco, in Chapel Hill years ago? That might not even be the right name. This was a place above the Cat’s Cradle, back when the Cat’s Cradle was located where The Bookshop is now. It might’ve been called the Morocco Club, or even the Casbah or something similar. It seemed pretty much like a speakeasy operated for the benefit of Cradle insiders and touring musicians.
Hipster elitism (usually) sucks, but we need more places that like that in the Triangle, and fewer like, for instance, the Depot Complex.

OMG. OMfuckingG. I never (well, rarely) use OMG but that link to the depot complex left me so speechless so I had to resort to TXTSPK for a second.
I’d really like to elaborate but… can’t… can’t breathe… drowning in cheese… I think I’m getting the black lung Pop…
Gotta go work on my Shiny Shirt/Tasteless Rich People Smart Bomb. Wish me luck.
Got to work on that Late Night Typo Smart Bomb too… balls.
I’ve been to the Morocco Club,or the Casbah, or whatever it was. I was underage and maybe that, coupled with the obscure location, made it seem illicit and more like a speakeasy than whatever it was.
My favorite name for the Depot is: The Johnston County Entertainment District. It’s Z-Spotlight city down there.

God I shiver every time I see these places and their marketing. You shouldn’t even help them out with the link- it is just sick. Their myspace pages are actually even more entertainting.
Jeeze. Words cannot describe the crap they’re spewing with those websites. Who buys the “we’re-so-authentic-that-we-have-to-shove-it-down-your-throats” adverts anyhow? So, what’s the theme, anyway? “We’re the baddest (pick one:) country/rock/sports bar/hip 70’s/metropolitan (pick another:) nightclub/dance hall/bar/party around!” If you’re not there, you’re square. (Hey, it’s as good-a-theme as any they have.)
